Lumberton, NC (October 4, 2021) – A 31-year-old man from Maxton was killed in a pedestrian accident that took place in Lumberton over the weekend. The crash happened on Sunday, October 3rd on North Carolina Highway 71, near the Scotland County Line.
Police say that Craig Harris was walking on N.C. 71 when he was struck by a 2001 GMC Sierra pickup truck. The driver of the truck was identified as 58-year-old Michal Franklin Harris, of Laurinburg. Craig Harris was in the northbound lanes of the highway at the time of the crash. Following impact, he came to rest in the middle of the road. Michael Harris did not suffer any injuries and alcohol is not believed to have played a role in the accident.
The incident remains under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. There have been no charges filed at this time. No additional details are available.
