Lumberton, NC (September 23, 2021) – Troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol were at the scene of a deadly car accident in Robeson County on Thursday, September 23rd. The accident was reported around 10:00 a.m. on Chason Road near the Lumber Bridge.
According to officials, a dump truck was traveling eastbound on Chason Road when an Econoline van crossed the centerline. The van collided head-on with the dump truck, causing both cars to overturn and catch on fire.
The driver of the dump truck was identified as 47-year-old Dawn Davis. The driver of the van was identified as 38-year-old Irene Locklear. Both Davis and Locklear, of Lumberton, died at the crash scene. There were no other vehicles involved and no additional injuries were reported.
There is no word at this time on what caused the van to cross the centerline. An investigation is ongoing. No further details have been released.
