Lumberton, NC (January 31, 2022) – One person was killed and two others suffered injuries following a crash in Lumberton on Sunday, January 30th. The accident took place on Second Street near the intersection with Water Street.
According to reports, 55-year-old Cynthia Coe was driving a white Hyundai Elantra on Second Street when her car was hit head-on by a silver Ford Mustang driven by 57-year-old Howard McNair. Coe died at the crash scene. Her passenger, 36-year-old Jennifer Thompson, of Lumberton, was taken to UNC Health with serious injuries. McNair was also transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
Witness reported that McNair was driving erratically just prior to the accident. Police had attempted to stop his vehicle but were unsuccessful. At this time, it is believed that alcohol is involved.
The accident is under investigation at this time. No further information is available.
