Oak Island, NC (April 13, 2022) – Three people lost their lives in a crash that took place on Tuesday in Oak Island. The accident occurred just before 9:00 p.m. near Long Beach Road and Vanessa Drive.
According to officials, 48-year-old Sharon Carr of Nellysford, Va was driving a Nissan SUV northbound over the G.V. Barbee Bridge when she tried to pass a vehicle in front of her. As she crossed the centerline, her car collided head-on with a Toyota Prius driven by 82-year-old Evelyn Ganas of Gettysburg, Pa. Both Evelyn Ganas, and her passenger, 66-year-old Dimitrios Ganas, died at the crash scene. Carr was also killed in the collision. There were no other vehicles involved.
The Oak Island Police Department is still investigating the accident at this time. It is believed that both speed and impairment may have played a role. The road was closed for over four hours on Tuesday night while police looked into the accident.
