Onslow County, NC (May 28, 2020) – One person died in a car accident that took place in Onslow County on Wednesday, May 27th. The crash happened on North Carolina Highway 258 in Richlands.
According to Trooper Chris Matos of the Highway Patrol, 26-year-old Jordan Riggs was traveling on Highway 258 near Hawn Branch Road when a collision occurred with a utility truck. His vehicle continued on before striking a second car head-on. There were three occupants in the second vehicle.
The driver of the second vehicle was airlifted to Vidant Health in serious condition. A passenger in the vehicle, 81-year-old Earl Lawson, died in the crash. A second passenger, a minor child, was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Riggs was also hospitalized in unknown condition.
Troopers have charged Riggs with involuntary manslaughter, driving with a revoked license and reckless driving.
