Fatal Crashes in North Carolina
A fatal car accident is one of the most heartbreaking and devastating events for a family to experience. The sudden loss of a loved one brings a rush of emotions, including sadness, frustration, and anger. In 2019, approximately 3,000 people were killed in car accidents in North Carolina. Many of these victims lost their lives when they came into contact with a negligent driver. The pain and frustration caused by a deadly crash are magnified when your loved one was taken through no fault of their own.
North Carolina law provides legal protection for family members who have experienced the death of a loved one. If the other driver was at fault for the accident, the victim’s legal representative can file a wrongful death lawsuit against the negligent motorist. A wrongful death claim must typically be filed within two years of the date of death. These claims can seek the recovery of various damages, including payment for medical and funeral bills, lost wages, loss of consortium, and more. Due to the complexity of a wrongful death claim, family members who believe they have a case should consult with an attorney that has experience in this area as soon as possible.
