Pedestrian Accidents in Raleigh
A pedestrian accident can result in injuries that have a substantial impact on your life and the lives of your loved ones. Raleigh is the second-largest city in North Carolina and there are many pedestrians throughout the city every day. The downtown area experiences a heavy volume of pedestrians but other areas do as well. Even on neighborhood streets, pedestrians are in abundance and motorists must always ensure that they are paying attention to their surroundings. According to statistics, there were 193 reported pedestrian accidents in Raleigh in 2019. Among these crashes, 210 injuries and 5 fatalities were reported.
The rate of injuries in pedestrian crashes is very high. Victims of pedestrian accidents normally include the pedestrian but can also include the driver or passengers of the vehicle involved. Most pedestrian crashes in North Carolina will result in serious injuries and even fatalities in the worst-case scenario. Pedestrians are extremely vulnerable and there is nothing to shield them from the force and impact of a collision with a motor vehicle. To make matters worse, many pedestrian crashes take place at higher speeds as the driver may be distracted and does not see the pedestrian until it is too late to avoid a collision. Sadly, these types of crashes often result in bad outcomes.
Although a pedestrian accident is an extremely serious event, there may be reasons for optimism following the crash. Under North Carolina law, an injured pedestrian or their family may be able to seek recovery from the third party that caused the crash. If a driver was at fault for the injuries, the pedestrian can file a personal injury claim to recover for their medical bills and other expenses associated with the accident, including pain and suffering and lost wages.
