Raleigh, NC (April 19, 2022) – Police in Raleigh are investigating a hit-and-run crash on Saturday, April 16th. The accident happened around 9:30 p.m. on Interstate 40 near the exit for Lake Wheeler Road.
According to a release from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, a pedestrian was walking near the roadway when he was hit by at least one car. The driver then struck the man and fled the scene of the crash before police could arrive. The pedestrian, who was not identified, died at the accident scene. Officials have not released a description of the vehicle or the suspect involved. The deceased pedestrian was not immediately identified.
Interstate 40 was closed for several hours while officials investigated at the scene. No further details have been released. Motorists were asked to avoid the scene and to find alternate routes of travel if possible.
