Raleigh, NC (September 12, 2020) – An officer with the Raleigh Police Department was injured while responding to a motor vehicle collision on Friday, September 11th. The crash happened on the southbound ramp to I-87 near I-40 East around 10:00 p.m.
Based on reports from the scene, an officer was responding to a report of a crash in the area. His car was parked near the roadway with its lights flashing when it was rear-ended by a work van. The driver of the van then fled the scene following the crash. After a brief pursuit, he was apprehended by other officers in the area.
The investigating officer and the driver of the van were taken to WakeMed with unknown injuries. There is no update on their conditions at this time. The officer has not been identified. The driver of the van was charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident. The crash temporarily caused the roadway to close while police investigated the incident.
