Randolph County, NC (April 25, 2021) – A bicyclist sustained critical injuries after being hit by a car in Randolph County on Friday night. The collision took place on Prospect Church Road near the intersection with Old Thomasville Road.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol was called to the scene just after the crash occurred. Troopers say that a Ford Mustang was traveling near the intersection with the driver crossed over the centerline and collided head-on with a Jeep that was traveling in the opposite direction. The Jeep flipped over and struck the bicycle. The bicyclist, who was not immediately identified, was airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem with serious injuries.
Following an investigation, the driver of the Mustang was charged with Driving Under the Influence, driving left of center, driving with an expired tag, and having an expired inspection. No one in the Mustang or the Jeep sustained any serious injuries.
No additional details have been released at this time.
