Richlands, NC (August 14, 2020) – A woman from Trenton was killed in a crash that took place in Richlands on Friday, August 14th. The crash happened just after 12:00 p.m. on Comfort Road.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, 87-year-old Rufus Snyder was driving a Kia Soul along Comfort Road. At the same, a minor was driving a Nissan on the other side of the roadway. The Nissan driver veered out of their lane of travel and crossed over the double yellow line. Snyder made an evasive maneuver to avoid colliding with the Nissan but was unsuccessful in preventing the head-on crash.
Snyder’s wife, 80-year-old Piety Snyder, was a passenger in the vehicle. She suffered critical injuries and died at the crash scene. Rufus Snyder and the driver of the Nissan were airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville with life-threatening injuries. The Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident at this time. A preliminary investigation revealed that speed may have been a factor in the crash. There is no word on whether any charges are expected to be filed.
No further details are available at this time.
We wish to extend our most sincere condolences to the family of Piety Snyder following this tragic accident in Richlands. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and we hope for their complete and speedy recoveries.
Fatal Car Accidents in North Carolina
Last year, there were more than 1,400 fatal traffic accidents reported in North Carolina. A large number of these fatal accidents were caused due to the actions of negligent drivers. Unfortunately, victims of North Carolina car accidents are often killed or injured in crashes that were not their fault. While each accident must be carefully investigated, speeding, reckless driving, impairment, and distraction all contribute to the substantial number of serious and fatal accidents that take place in our state every year.
If you have lost a loved one in a car accident in our state, you could have valuable and important legal rights. Under North Carolina law, the deceased victim’s next-of-kin may have the right to bring a lawsuit against the driver who was responsible for the crash.
