Pedestrian Accidents in North Carolina
A North Carolina pedestrian crash can and often does lead to serious injuries and even death for victims. Pedestrian crashes take place on our roadways each day and are some of the most serious types of accidents that we see. These crashes take place in an instant and can change the lives of those affected forever. In 2018, our state experienced 225 deaths due to pedestrian crashes, up more than 12% from the year before. Both pedestrians and drivers should always remember to exercise caution when they are on the roadways.
Sadly, many pedestrian crashes take place due to the fault of the drivers involved. Distraction, impairment, speeding, and failing to yield the right of way can all play a role in pedestrian crashes. Negligent drivers on our roadways are responsible for thousands of crashes every year and often the pedestrian is not at fault when they are injured at the hands of a motorist. Police must carefully investigate each pedestrian accident in order to determine who should be held responsible.
