Washington County, NC (July 27, 2020) – A deputy with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was hurt in a head-on crash that took place on Sunday, July 26th. The crash happened on North Carolina Highway 45 near the intersection with US 17.
According to reports from the scene, deputy Alfonzo Boyd spotted a suspect traveling in a stolen vehicle. As deputy Boyd attempted to make a traffic stop, the suspect fled at a high rate of speed and was traveling the wrong way on Highway 64. The suspect, 23-year-old Anthony Jackson crashed into Boyd’s vehicle head-on. Following the crash, Jackson fled on foot into the woods. He was later apprehended and taken into custody.
Boyd was transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville with serious injuries including two broken feet and cuts to his head and face. He does not have any internal injuries and is expected to survive the crash.
An investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time. There is no additional information available.
