Wayne County, NC (August 13, 2020) – Four people were taken to the hospital following a two-car crash on Wednesday, August 12th in Wayne County. The accident took place around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Sleepy Creek Road and Ruskin Road.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene. According to reports from troopers, the crash involved a deputy with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and another vehicle. The deputy, who has not been identified at this time, sustained serious injuries in the crash. The other three victims were taken to local hospitals with unknown injuries. There is no word on their conditions at this time. Police have not released any information on the cause of the accident. Motorists were advised to use caution when traveling near the accident scene and to find alternate routes of travel if possible. No one involved in the accident has been identified.
An investigation remains ongoing and police have not said whether any charges are expected to be filed.
