Wilkesboro, NC (April 22, 2021) – A man died and a woman was hurt following a crash on Highway 60 in Wilkesboro on Wednesday morning. The accident occurred around 10:40 a.m near Hollands Wood Road.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a John Deere farm tractor with a plow attachment was traveling eastbound on Highway 60 when the plow crossed the dividing line of the roadway. The plow was then struck by a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 that was traveling westbound on Highway 60.
The driver of the truck, 70-year-old Johnny Wayne Cleary, died at the crash scene. His passenger 63-year-old Claudia Whittington Cleary, was injured and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the tractor was not injured. Police are still investigating the collision at this time and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
