Wilkesboro, NC (June 7, 2021) – Two people were killed in a hit-and-run accident that happened on Sunday, June 6th in Wilkesboro. The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. on the Curtis Bridge over the Yadkin River.
According to the Wilkesboro Police Department, a man and woman were walking on the bridge when they were struck by a vehicle. They were both thrown from the bridge and landed on the ground below. A passerby who saw the two victims called authorities to the scene. Both victims were pronounced dead by rescue crews a short time later. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene following the collision. The man and woman have not been identified at this time.
Police are still searching for the driver in connection with the collision. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call the Wilkesboro Police Department.
