Wilmington, NC (May 13, 2021) – A woman from Wilmington was hospitalized following a two-car accident on Tuesday, May 11th. The crash took place at approximately 12:17 p.m. on Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway near the intersection with Castle Hayne Road.
Officer M.S. Brannon of the Wilmington Police Department responded to the crash scene. According to a report, Thomas Russell, of Wilmington, was operating a vehicle northbound on MLK when he stopped for traffic in front of him. At the same time, Megan Faulkner, of Ocean Isle Beach, was also operating a vehicle northbound on MLK. Faulkner failed to slow down for traffic in front of her and collided with the rear-end of Russell’s car. A passenger in Russell’s vehicle, Melissa Russell, was injured in the crash. She was treated by paramedics from New Hanover EMS. There is no word on her condition at this time or the extent of her injuries. No one else was hurt in the accident.
Following an investigation, Faulkner was charged with failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash. No further details are available.
