Wilmington, NC (June 27, 2021) – Police in Wilmington responded to the scene of a wrong-way crash on Thursday, June 24th. The accident happened near the Isabel Holmes Bridge and North Third Street.
The Wilmington Police Department responded to the crash scene. According to an initial report from officials, Renaldo Prescott was operating a Penske box truck in the eastbound lanes of the bridge when he collided with a pickup truck that was traveling southbound on North Third Street. The impact caused the pickup truck to overturn before coming to rest on its side. The driver and a passenger in the pickup truck suffered serious injuries, including a fractured femur and head trauma. The victims were taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Following an investigation, officers charged Prescott with driving while impaired, felony serious injury by vehicle, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of marijuana, and driving the wrong way on a one-way street. The identities of the victims have not been released at this time.
