Winston-Salem, NC (August 7, 2020) – A man was killed in a moped crash that took place early Friday morning in Winston-Salem. The crash happened just after midnight in the southbound lanes of U.S. 421 near Exit 230.
The Winston-Salem Police Department responded to the scene just after the crash took place. According to investigators, the moped was traveling southbound on U.S. 431 when it was hit from behind by a 2011 Honda. After being struck by the Honda, the moped was then hit by a 2016 Ford truck. The driver of the moped sustained critical injuries in the crash. He was later pronounced dead at the crash scene. The moped driver’s identity has not been released at this time.
The Honda driver and a passenger were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. There were no other injuries reported in the crash. The accident caused U.S. 421 to be closed for approximately four hours while police and investigators worked at the crash scene.
