Zebulon, NC (July 12, 2021) – Police in Wake County responded to the scene of a crash involving multiple vehicles on Sunday, July 11th. The collision took place on U.S. Highway 264 near the intersection with Interstate 87 around 3:30 p.m.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident involved at least 20 cars. At the time of the collision, there were severe storms moving through the area. The accident was caused by a chain reaction collision when one vehicle failed to slow for others in front of it. At least three people were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Their identities have not been released at this time. The accident caused major delays in the area as police worked to clear the scene and investigate the collision.
Troopers say that charges are likely to be issued pending the outcome of an investigation. There is no additional information available at this time.
